What is my Volunteer Requirement?

At FYHA, a large part of our program is run by volunteers.  As a result of this, we require all families (multiple players in a single family 9-hours total) to volunteer time to help run the program.  For the current season,  the Volunteer Commitment is:

  • Nine (9) hours of volunteer work during the FYHA season, or three (3) hours for families with Ponies only, or...
  • $400 deposit check for volunteering which only is cashed at the end of the season (approx March/April) if you do not fulfill your volunteer requirements. Your check will be shredded upon completion of your required hours.  Starting with the 2020-2021 season, families with three (3) or more skaters are no longer exempt from the volunteer requirement.

Please see below for the full policy,  including the NO SHOW-NO Call Policy/Charges,   -- This page is intended to walk you through how to sign up to volunteer and what each role requires.

How do I find the "Dibs" Page to Sign Up?

FYHA uses a Volunteer system called DIBS to sign-up for hours.  In order to see available shifts/hours, you will need to login to the site with the USERNAME & PASSWORD  you created and used to register your skater.

***If you are unsure of what username/password you used to sign your child up, click the "Login" button in the upper left corner of the screen and you'll find a "forgot your username" and "forgot your password" link.*******

Once Logged in,  please click on the "Dibs" tab above on the right hand side of the page, there you will see a link referencing the current season and "Volunteer", click on this link and a window will appear with the available shifts. Enter your name, phone & email (All info is required to sign up)  hit save at bottom of page.   A confirmation email will be sent to you.   Once you have completed your shift and have signed the log (at concession stand)  you can expect to see your shift marked complete within 7-10 days of the shift completion.  (Please allow the 7-10 days as you know how busy the hockey season is for everyone.)

What Volunteer Opportunities exist?

The Concession stand is the majority of our Fundraising efforts, however, we do have other opportunities, some are listed below:

Concession Stand Coaching - Head & Asst Mite Jamboree
FYHA Hockey Day Louis Schmitz Holiday Tourney Board Members
Many More DIBS Sessions

How do I get my Check back?

Once volunteer hours have been completed, your check that was collected will be destroyed - not returned

There will be no refunds of volunteer checks.  It's your responsibility to serve the hours in the specified season or your check will be cashed at the end of the season, which is typically in March or April.

FYHA Volunteer Policy

Volunteers are a vital part of Farmington Youth Hockey.  We simply could not exist without our dedicated volunteers/parents, etc.  We fully appreciate the commitment you have made to make Farmington Hockey a positive and enjoyable experience for our youth.   Please read the volunteer requirements carefully.

Volunteer requirement for FYHA the Season

A family is required to volunteer for nine (9) hours throughout the season (note this is per family, not per player).  Families with an active duty military parent are exempt from the volunteer requirements. Starting with the 2020-2021 season, families with three (3) or more skaters are no longer exempt from the volunteer requirements.

You may sign up to work at any of the following FYHA events.
    •    Registration/Open House
    •    Concession Stand
    •    Jamborees
    •    Tournaments
    •    End of year party

Volunteer Deposit for the FYHA Season

A $400 check payable to FYHA will be required at the Open House and held until the end of the season.  You do have an opt-out option of $300, collected at the Open House or online during registration.   This check will be cashed immediately (or online payment taken during registration).

Families unable to work nine (9) hours of volunteer time will have their volunteer deposit check cashed the first week of April after the season is over.

Once you have committed to a specific date, you are expected to work those hours. You have up until 2 days before your shift to cancel in the DIBS system.   If after the 2 day period you cannot work the hours you have signed up for, you MUST find a replacement and advise the coordinator.   A very large portion of our fundraising efforts are during the Boys & Girls High School Hockey games and it is imperative that we have coverage.

Thank You!

If you fail to show up for a claimed shift, this is considered a “no-show.” No-shows will be billed $50 per no-show. To ensure collection of this amount, at end of season, your $400 check will be cashed and you will be issued a refund check less the amount of the no show fee.

Families completing volunteer hours to fulfill scholarship requirements are also subject to no-show penalty fees.

Families who have not paid billed no-show fees or who supply checks that are unable to be cashed or returned for insufficient funds, will not be allowed to register their player to play for the subsequent hockey season until the account has been paid in full (including any applicable bank charges.)

Please allow one week for completed hours to be reflected on DIBS.
Qualified volunteers must be capable of performing the tasks and must be 14 years or older.  Teams may elect to change the overall number of managers and coach reimbursements but are capped at the existing allocation per team.
